A Neighbourhood Watch member received a telephone call supposedly from SKY and the person knew her Christian name even though she is not the account holder!
The person claimed that they had overpaid monthly direct debits and needed details to set up a new direct debit in order to repay them back the money which had been “overpaid” in error.
Obviously the NW person declined to give that information and told the person to send a letter with all this information, to which he answered “Yes of course”, also with all the legal documents etc.
At this point the NW member put down the phone.
It is best for everyone to know of such a scam and not to be caught unaware during this busy time.
The NW member actually phoned Sky on the genuine number and a very helpful man said take a note of the times of calls and a possible telephone number (but it was not available under 1471).
If you do receive a number of these calls on such matters and you have the number then advise your telephone service provider as they can block that number.
Finally please NEVER, at any time, give any personal information over the telephone to anyone who asks.
