Description: “The whole of the civil parish of Stambourne comprising Stambourne Green, Brickyard, Meeting End,Butchers Arms Inn, Mill Road, Mill House, Old House Farm, Hill Farm, Church Farm Wesley End Cottages, Church House, Rectory, New House Farm, Hall Farm, Lion Inn, School House, Dyers End, Tagley Farm, Craigs End, New Barn, Levitts Farm, Robin Hood End Farm and Cottages, Greenfields, Metsons Farm, Mill Farm. Also a formerly detached part of the civil parish of Ridgewell comprising 8 cottages next to the Butchers Arms Inn and a formerly detached part of Ridgewell called Ridgewell Norton comprising Great and Little Norton Farms and 8 cottages near thereto in the ecclesiastical district of St Johns Cornish Hall End, Finchingfield”

  • 439 people of which 252 were born in Stambourne
  • Around 40 people born more than 10 miles from Stambourne
  • 94 men and boys described as agricultural workers
  • No straw plaiting industry. Apart from 10 or so women or girls described as domestic servants and a handful of dressmakers, none of the women seem to have employment outside the home.
