From the Census return, kindly provided by Tony Bayley, January 2025
A few facts from the return:
- 91 occupied dwellings
- 299 people registered of whom 167 were born in Stambourne
- Continued decline in farm workers down to ~55 from 74 in 1911.
- Continued decline in number of scholars, 33 compared with 55 in 1911
Apart from the normal information gathered in previous censuses, the 1921 census also gave details of the person’s employer and place of work so it is possible to see what industries were operating at the time. Ages were required to be given in years and months rather than just years. Unfortunately, again, only some of the dwellings can be identified with certainty. Marital status only applies to those 15 or over
If you have any details on which houses are which, please let us know. Very few of the houses in those days had names but they are shown where they have been entered on the census.
