PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
The final meeting of the year was held on Thursday 15 November 2018 at 7.30pm in the village hall. We were pleased to welcome Braintree District Councillor Richard van Dulken and one member of the public.
War Memorial - It was lovely to see that Gem Construction were able to complete the renovation of the war memorial before 11 November by re- etching and painting the inscription. A parishioner has also suggested that as an additional way of remembering the seven men named on the memorial, that the parish council plant seven oak trees at three different locations in the village. The parish council were happy to support this suggestion and arrangements are now being made to put this plan in place.
Braintree District Council - Cllr Richard van Dulken gave his regular report on District Council business. He has advised that he will be opposing the proposed library closures which Essex County Council have put forward.
Debbie Hilliard Parish Clerk
Pavilion - The work to install a new disabled toilet and baby-change facility in the pavilion has now been completed. This would not have been possible without the CIF grant received from Essex County Council, a donation from the village fete organisers and Braintree District Council’s Community Grant.
BONFIRE NIGHT
The evening was a huge success – the weather was kind and many people came to enjoy the fireworks and barbeque. It is not possible to put on an event of this kind without all the volunteers who come forward to help every year – teams of people who set everything up, organised and let off the fireworks, managed the bonfire, refreshments, barbecue, parking, first aid, and clear up afterwards. Thank you to you all.

CHAPEL NEWS
What wonderful autumn weather we had. This allowed us to do some work which we have felt for some time needed doing. If you know, or are of the families of Frost, Patterson, King, Piper,
Ralling, Warren, or Jameson, then please contact us. We have good news - the headstones that were moved and placed under the shed and around the back door when the new building was put up in 1969 have been stood up again - they are now standing on the northern perimeter of Chapel graveyard. Most of the memorials date from the 1790's to the 1890's. But we felt, as they had already been moved from the place of the burial, that they should be put where people would be able to see them, and this would then allow us to record the inscriptions and fill some of the information gaps we had in our records. So please forgive us for the state of the grass in the graveyard. I am sure it will quickly recover and our thanks to the digger driver who did such a wonderful job with minimal impact.
When we set our minds to do God's work He puts all things together and, rather than struggling to get things done, the plan all works out. One key part of this is giving our work to God. For whether life is easy or difficult, it is always easier knowing that God is in control. And this month as we prepare
Happy Christmas. Adrian Burr
RACE NIGHT
Saturday 8th. December at 7:00 pm In the Village Hall
£10 adults £7 under 11s
Price includes a hot meal and Christmas pudding Please bring your own drinks and glasses
for Christmas that is particularly important. Whether shopping or cooking, travelling or however we are preparing, we can pray, not just for ourselves, but for those around us. For those who won't be celebrating, for those for whom Christmas is a difficult time, for those who have no-one to celebrate with. Pray for those who are hustling to get things done, for those who make our own life more difficult, and I could go on with the list. But pray real prayers. The prayers that talk about the real issues in your own life and in the lives of those around you. Pray to a God who has the power and authority to do something about all these things. Pray earnestly, and pray continually - not just at a regular time, but all the time as you go about your daily business.
And we pray that your Christmas will be blessed, and joyful, and that you will all be a blessing to those around you.
The evening will run by Breast Cancer Care and will also include the draw for the GRAND Christmas Raffle.

RECTOR’s RAMBLINGS
page4image67152
My goodness it's got dark! We're waking up in the dark which makes it so much harder to get up, and after a day’s work we're coming home in the dark.
For most that's OK; it's an excuse for staying in, evenings with open fires and mugs of hot chocolate but for some the darkness is a real problem. The lack of sunlight causes low mood and for a few a serious depression.
We're approaching Christmas and it's bright and shiny, a time of bright twinkly Christmas lights everywhere you look. But for many it doesn't matter how many lights the neighbourhood is festooned with, it is hard for you to engage with it.
4
If that is you then the message of Christmas is very much for you this year. I don’t mean the sanitised sentimental one we see in Christmas adverts (as cute as they are) but the real message; Jesus being born into a dark world of political upheaval and uncertainty, a world of pain and loss. Jesus being born as a human being to experience everything we do so that He can truly walk with us in whatever darkness we face. But most of all, Jesus coming to earth as the light of the world, to win a victory over the things that hold us hostage and to shine His light and dispel the darkness. In that Christmas message we find hope and joy.
The light is coming. Come the 21st December the days will start getting longer and we will start to see the return of the sun. This Christmas and New Year I pray for the light of God to shine brightly in each of your lives.
Our Christmas services this year will be bursting with the joy of Jesus’ coming. If you love a traditional carol service then do come to St Peter and St Thomas carol service at 3pm on Sunday 23rd December, or come to our joyous morning service on Christmas Day at 9.30 am where we celebrate the wonderful gift God gave us, of his Son, and we join the praise of the angels in the fields of the shepherds as we welcome him once again into our lives.

THE VILLAGE JUMBLE SALE
There was a good turnout for the Jumble Sale on 3rd November. A big thank you to everyone who helped, it was fantastic to see so many people put themselves out to raise money for charities.
Letters of thanks have been received from both the Essex
Air Ambulance and the British Heart Foundation who were very grateful for the donations.
