We’re investing in your community to protect the environment

We’re committed to keeping our region’s vital water and sewerage infrastructure in excellent condition, serving communities, and protecting the environment.

It’s all part of our biggest ever programme of investment. We clean, supply and treat a billion litres of water a day and all our pipes laid end to end would stretch around the world three times – so keeping everything running smoothly is a huge challenge. This year we’re investing £930 million in pipes, treatment centres, customer service and the environment.

What are we doing and why?

Currently the drains and sewers in your community take used water away to our water recycling centre (WRC) off Church Road in Stambourne. We then clean it before returning it safely to the local environment.

Due to an increase in flows we need to pump this extra flow to a bigger WRC to ensure you continue to receive reliable and resilient services.

To do this we’ll build a new pumping station and lay a four-kilometre pipeline from Stambourne WRC to the existing sewer network on Fell Road in Birdbrook.

How will our work affect you?

You can see the route we will take on the maps below. Work starts on 9th September 2024 and if everything runs smoothly, we’ll be finished by Spring 2025.

Most of our work will be through fields however there will be traffic management in place which we have explained below. Our route also takes us over a public right of way, but access will still be available to you.

Traffic management

So we can lay and connect the new pipeline to the existing sewer network safely, we’ll need to close the below roads on the following dates, please note these are subject to change depending on how we progress on site:
