STAMBOURNE PARISH COUNCIL

The latest meeting of the Parish Council took place on Thursday, 18th July 2024 at 7.30pm. The meeting was held in the Village Hall.  We were pleased to welcome four members of the public who had several questions to ask the Parish Council. Parish Council meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend. The Parish Council meetings are very often attended by both our District Councillor, Richard van Dulken and County Councillor, Peter Schwier. If you would like to attend meeting dates for the remainder of 2024 are shown below. Agendas are available on this website or by contacting Debbie Hillliard (Parish Clerk).

Pavilion and Playing Field

A working party of parish councillors and a member of the public gave up their time to clean the gutters of the Pavilion and install additional grass protection mesh where vehicles can access the grass from the car park. This should help stop the area getting churned up on bonfire night.

Thank you to everyone who helped with this. The trees on the playing field have been surveyed and some work will take place later in the year. The play equipment has had its annual inspection.

ST. PETER & ST. THOMAS BECKET PARISH CHURCH

Work should start in September to the repair/replacement to parts of the Church tower.

I am hoping that we can still use the Church for Sunday services but please look at the noticeboard for any updates.

Stambourne Church

I have received two suggestions, both relating to the Churchyard, and would appreciate your comments with regard to taking them further:

  1. When the daffodils, that lead from the Church gate, flower in the Spring they are starting to look sparse in places and the suggestions were:
    • Donations towards more bulbs (which could be in memory of a loved one)
    • Help with planting them in the Autumn
  2. Oscar Pickess does an excellent job of cutting the grass and strimming around the graves but there is a lot more work that could be done to keep our Churchyard looking tidy, for example the Cremation area, old graves that need tidying up, weeds on the path etc. Perhaps once or twice a year a “working party” could get together for this? Quite a few Churches do this now.

Please let me know if you are able to help with either of these suggestions or have other comments.
